The construction of a new waste handling facility and office in an environmentally challenging location. Including provision and maintenance of all temporary waste handling staff and plant. And the civils requirements associated with the provision of a new Costa Coffee outlet.

Challenge

The site was located deep within the airbus wing construction facility at BEA Chester. The sensitive nature of the facility required that noise and dust pollution was a critical factor in our chosen methods of working. We needed to understand the parameters associated with working in the BEA facility.

Approach

This was a client new to Hovington so in the first place we took advice from professional bodies who had experience of working within BEA and from the BEA project managers themselves. As we began to understand how environmentally sensitive the facility was we were better able to adapt our processes to accommodate these limitations.

Solution

We conducted weekly on-site training days for all staff and operatives thereby giving a thorough grounding in pollution prevention. The primary objective being to educate and thus instigate an “environment first” approach. Hovington also researched for, and made available super- silenced plant and equipment and purchased “state of the art” particle separators.

"Your excellent contribution to this important scheme, together with your experience & specialist knowledge helped achieve a successful outcome for all parties."

Andy Roberts, Director, MPH Construction
