Lidl Regional Distribution Centre, Runcorn

Challenge

The major challenge presented by this project was to achieve optimum production whilst ensuring the operational requirements of the RDC were not affected by the construction activities. In order to minimise disruption in the service yard we employed high speed construction techniques to reduce preparation time, installed high strength, rapid hardening concrete to ensure return of the yard to the client quicker and adjusted our bay pours to maximise the working area available to the Client’s Logistics Operations.

Approach

Our full time site management team worked closely with Lidl, Gleave Partnership (Client’s Project Managers) & TSL Projects to balance the programme production requirements with the needs of the Client’s operations. Careful plant selection reduced the impact of our works on the site and ensuring work areas were fully completed before multiple phased handovers ensured minimal operational disruption throughout the contract period.

Solution

We held regular meetings to ensure we programmed the scheme to adapt to the site constraints, consulted extensively with the Client’s Team & examined the options available to hit the milestone dates set by the end user. We successfully employed innovative construction techniques to optimise efficiency & productivity, minimise disruption and provide a solution to meet the client’s needs & expectations.
