This project comprised of the construction of 484 self-contained bedrooms in cluster Flats and Studio apartments over 8 storeys with D2 space and refurbished a public thoroughfare. The site, was the Former ‘Bristol Entertainment Centre, the Ice Rink was removed with the O2 Academy remaining operational throughout the works. Hovington were employed part way through the project due to the initial groundworks contractor being unable to complete the works.

Challenge

Situated on Trenchard Street in the heart of Bristol’s city centre made this project a huge logistical challenge. Storage space was at a premium on this project, couple that with the numerous daily deliveries that had to be unloaded by the tower crane meant that the simplest task became extremely challenging.

Approach

Hovington have worked with this principal contractor on various jobs spanning the last 20 years. During this time we have built up a fantastic rapport with their construction team. It was this relationship coupled with strategic programming that helped to get this project back on track.

Solution

The Hovington site team worked tirelessly to push this project forward. Regular site meetings meant that we could optimise our programmed works to suit the numerous deliveries, the existing UNITE building already occupied by students, and the O2 academy’s live music events.
