The project involved the construction of additional parking facilitates at this ultra-high spec facility that is “the largest site globally committed to the support & development of mass spectrometry systems”.


A major challenge presented by this project was to minimise the effect of the construction activities on the live, high tech research & production facility. This required careful consideration of plant to be utilised to reduce vibration, ensuring a high standard to cleanliness in all aspects of site operations and generally working with the site’s dedicated Facilities Management Team to optimise productivity & yet balance the need for a sympathetic approach to the construction phase activities.


By ensuring we gained a full understanding of the client’s operations before establishing our team on site, we sought to ensure that our activities would have minimal impact on the live site & any activities that exceeded permissible limits were undertaken outside of the facility’s operating hours. Again, regular contact & working with the Site FM Team ensured we achieved a good balance between productivity & client satisfaction.


We held regular meetings to ensure the client was fully aware of our planned operations & gained their approval to proceed through each phase of our works. Under this project incorporating contractor design, we assumed responsibility for the detailed design and were able to incorporate the utilisation of porous tarmac surfacing to align with the Client’s desired sustainability objectives.
